College & Career
At Annapolis Area Christian School, we are challenging students to be seekers of truth, servants of others and stewards of creation. AACS students are encouraged to purposefully explore their talents, using their high school journey to develop working goals. We work with students so that by the time they reach their senior year they have clear direction, are seeking Gods will earnestly, and see several options to continue their development. The professional staff in the office of College and Career Services support school families in researching, identifying, and connecting with colleges to aid families in the pathway from home and high school to college and then career. We know that with diligence and hard work, we can trust that: He who began a good work, will be faithful to complete it. Philippians 1:6
here are some of the college and career services aacs provides at each upper school grade level:
freshmen are introduced to family connections, our web-based college search and career assessment tool.
in the fall, sophomores take the psat. then in the spring they are given a career and aptitude assessment to help promote discussions about career interests, researching career/education options, and encouraging them to begin thinking about junior year job shadowing.
皇冠hg代理体育彩票juniors take the psat again in the fall, which is also used as the national merit scholarship qualifying test. also in the fall, usually october, parents and students attend junior meeting to begin charting senior year tasks. juniors are also encouraged to schedule a time to meet with the guidance department to complete course mapping and begin college mapping. then, each spring juniors participate in job shadowing day. as they spend the day shadowing a working professional, we ask them to reflect on:
- Christ in the workplace,
- The relevance of coursework as it relates to the specific job, and
- College options.
juniors may start taking the sat/act tests in the spring. (sats/acts are offered seven times during the year; students are responsible to schedule their own tests.)
this is a year filled with excitement and preparation as seniors and their families continue their journey by moving from planning to action: the college identification, application and transition process. sat testing continues through the fall of the senior year. in addition, aacs hosts several strategic events for seniors and their families such as senior kick off night, money for college seminar, as well as individual college application planning sessions.
